Sun Pyrite, also called a Pyrite Sun or Pyrite Dollar, is a flat, disc-shaped formation of pyrite (iron sulfide) with fine lines radiating outward from the centre like the rays of the sun. Pyrite has a hardness of about 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, but sun pyrite discs are thin and can break if dropped, and pyrite is sensitive to moisture.
