About Selenite

Selenite is a translucent white to colourless variety of gypsum, a calcium sulfate mineral. It is named after Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, because of its soft, pearly glow. Selenite is extremely soft at about 2 on the Mohs scale and it can dissolve or become damaged when exposed to water. It must always be kept dry.
